On Monday, 09/09/2024, the Pre-primary section of Vidyodaya Public School, Udupi, celebrated Onam with great enthusiasm and cultural spirit. Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, marks the homecoming of the generous King Mahabali and is widely celebrated for its cultural and historical significance.
The celebration commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the teachers, symbolizing the start of the festivities. The students, along with their teachers, created a vibrant and colorful Pookalam (flower rangoli), which beautifully captured the essence of the festival and conveyed warm Onam greetings. The intricate floral designs added a festive charm to the occasion.
The children were engaged in various activities that introduced them to the rich traditions of Onam. Storytelling sessions about King Mahabali and the significance of the festival allowed the students to connect with Kerala’s heritage. Additionally, they enjoyed creative art activities, which further deepened their understanding of the cultural importance of Onam.
